I recently simultaneously took a classical approach to miking the grand piano while also going a bit Jack White. Here is the video so you can see the techniques. https://youtu.be/bHc2Gtovy30

Hello everyone, I am offering a discount to all IC members in the months of June and July. Get $150 off the card rate for a mix. Using a collection of both digital and analog gear my hybrid system affords the best of both worlds while providing greater headroom and sense of depth using analog summing and high end conversersion. I will of course discuss your vision for the mix prior and include same day revisions to make sure you get what you need from the mix. Additional discounts available for larger projects.

What do you all consider when recording vocals? The gear and how it helps get the emotion across? Do you know when to abandon your gear lust and adapt to the situation? The ambience of the recording area? Do you work hard on your headphone mix or does the vocalist prefer a dry vocal when cutting vocals? How much and what type of tuning do you use? Do you play with the timing of the vocals after recording? Here is a recent video to get the conversation rolling; https://www.audiobyrickslater.com/media

Do any of you prefer to compress individual stems rather than the whole mix when you are mixing? If so what is your set-up and how does it affect your sound?

You can alter the sonic character of a mic by changing the impedance of the pre-amp. How many folks are using this function in their sessions?
