Giving yourself the best opportunity for a great vocal
What do you all consider when recording vocals? The gear and how it helps get the emotion across? Do you know when to abandon your gear lust and adapt to the situation? The ambience of the recording area? Do you work hard on your headphone mix or does the vocalist prefer a dry vocal when cutting vocals? How much and what type of tuning do you use? Do you play with the timing of the vocals after recording?
Here is a recent video to get the conversation rolling;
PS - recording other people’s vocals is a different thing because a lot of my job then involves keeping them motivated and feeling confident.

I love the mic under the piano technique. It adds an extra depth to the mix if needed, and there is a miniscule delay that adds depth🙏
