The son of a US Marine, Ken Holt grew up in seven states, finally landing in Jacksonville, Florida. Musical influences include his Uncle Henry's mandolin picking, Gospel influences; Duane and Dickie's search for the right guitar harmony in the right place; John and Paul's six chord innovations; his dad's Willie and Waylon record collection; and his appreciation for a catchy radio song. Today, because his music blends Country, Rock, Bluegrass, and old-school Pop, "Americana" describes him best.
When Ken is not walking the dog or putting food on the table, you will find him refining lyrics, trying out new song arrangements, recording tracks in his home studio, and rehearsing with his current duo, The Promise. One booking agent said, "Original music to evoke nostalgia, longing, joy, and hope."
In the 1970s and 80s, he played bass with the regionally successful New England band The Blend. Two MCA records and two tours followed, including opening slots for The Who, ZZ-Top, Hall & Oats, 38-Special, Loggins and Messina, The Outlaws, Blue Oyster Cult, Charlie Daniels, Foghat, and more. These gave Ken a taste of the road and the joy of playing music with good friends. Today, The Promise's first gig was at the Florida Americana Music Festival in 2024.
