I recorded my first EP using Pro Tools, which is what I also use for my home demos. When I was forced to switch studio, however, I discovered that my new producer uses ADAT. I'm totally freaked out that he has no visual display ala PT but can edit and fly things from place to place just using the numbers from the ADAT disc. Just wondering if any of you are using "old school" recording techniques like ADAT or -- even older school -- tape? I started recording back in the Sixties to a two-track machine in a studio, when the entire band played the song together and, if anyone screwed up, you had to start again. Obviously, this approach works and produced some of the greatest music ever. Sometimes I think we rely too much on PT and being able to "fix" things rather than trying to achieve the best performance. Thoughts?
