Indianapolis based Anita Lerche is a Billboard Top-5 Charting internationally acclaimed award-winning singer, songwriter and composer. She originates from Denmark and was the first non-Asian woman from the West to sing and release an album in Punjabi. Known as ‘Heer from Denmark’, Anita has been touring the world, receiving numerous Awards & Honors, including a “Special Contribution Award” at the UK Bhangra Awards 2019.
The testimony of Anita’s versatility lies in the fact that she has sung and performed in 16 different languages and masters many genres of music like Musical Theatre, Pop, Cabaret, Devotional, and Bhangra.
Her singing career in the early years were focused on especially musical theatre on stages in UK and Denmark, and in 2005 she released her debut solo album ‘I Love A Piano’, a collection of some of her favorite musical theatre and pop songs and one of her own compositions.
That same year a trekking vacation to India introduced her to a whole new world of music. She was offered a record contract and decided to stay back. Since Anita released “Heer from Denmark” in India in 2006, her career as an international singer and performer expanded by leaps and bounds, transforming her into an Ambassador for Indian music and culture. Punjab became her second home for a period of nearly 10 years, before she moved to US in 2014.
Her second Punjabi solo album, “Sadke Punjab Ton”, also set great waves, with three videos viewed by over 10 million music lovers on YouTube. Anita’s album “Bhajans” debuted on the Billboard New Age Music Chart as a Hot Shot Debut at #6 during its first week out. This was Anita's first time entering Billboard Magazine's prestigious music charts. Since that time, she has reached #5 on the Billboard New Age Music Chart while simultaneously sitting at #6 on the Billboard World Music Chart...opening the door for other South Asian musicians who are striving to bring their music to a larger audience.
Anita has been featured on several music collaboration, including ‘Aao Ji’ with King Gurcharan Mall and she was recognized for her single ‘Maahiya (feat. Cheshire Cat)’ with a Danish Music Award for ‘World Track of the Year’. Danish composer Stephan Grabowski also used Anita’s vocals for this album and theatre project ‘The Bollywood Trip’ and she was honored to be a part of the compilation album ‘Music To Inspire – Artist UNited against human trafficking’, released by Rukus Avenue in partnership with United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund.
In 2018 the Indian Embassy in Denmark chose Anita to represent Denmark in the grand video collaboration of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite Bhajan “Vaishnav Jan To”, sung in Gujarati. The video included Artists from 124 countries and was launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a part of the 150 years birthday celebration of Mahatma Gandhi.
In 2019 Anita debuted as a Radio Host on Rukus Avenue Radio, the world’s number one South Asian Radio Station with over 4 mill monthly listeners, exclusively on Dash Radio. She has a weekly show called ‘Around the World with Anita’ that is featuring contemporary world music.
Anita’s 5th solo album “Love Is My Religion” is a unique and beautiful fusion of East & West with a strong message of Love & Unity across borders and religions. It is about letting go of fear and following your heart in life – and spreading more love into this world. Anita has written and composed all songs herself and produced the album together with world renowned GRAMMY Nominated slack-key guitarist Jim “Kimo” West.
